Season Best Adds Some Zest

Graphs for today’s season best 500m.

There were several workout pieces on the ergs today but the main one was another try at a season best for 500m. Plan was average pace of 1:57.1 then faster near the end. But the plan was modified a bit when I saw that the average pace would be faster than target. Because of that I aimed for a steady pace to the finish.

3430 Meters Rowing Easy

Today’s total distance of 3,430 meters was chosen because it was the distance rowed most recently by one of my training partners. An easy pace for a non-standard distance.

500 Meter Season Best 07/11/2021

Waiting to start. There was a 30 second countdown wait time before each of the three pieces in today’s screen recording.

Like the title indicates, a 500 meter session today was a “season best” time. The exact time for the 500 meter session was 1 minute 57.4 seconds. The session screen recording also includes warmup and warmdown. The warmup is 500 meters. The warmdown is 750 meters. Each part- warmup, 500 meter sprint and warmdown is preceded by a 30 second countdown display.

Tasting the Edge of Berserk

There were three erg sessions today. First, an easy 5K on SkiErg. Second, 30 minutes online with a guy who was in Germany. Third, 2500 meter online warm down.

There were two rowers in the 30 minutes online session, counting myself as one of those two. I rowed very slow with the exception of a very brief taste of going berserk during the 8th of 8 one-minute intervals. The first 10 minutes of the 30 minute session was warmup. Beginning with the eleventh minute I did mostly mild intervals of one minute each with one or two minutes active rest following each interval.

The only interval that wasn’t mild was the 8th, in which I let it get a little bit wild for just a tiny bit of time.

If you’d like to view or row along with the screen recording of today’s only briefly berserk session it is available here: July 10th, 2021 online rowing session.

A Silent Robin

The session screen-recorded today, a 3,000 meters rowing session, was done online. Before it started, I typed a message in the General Chat Room inviting the rower whose name, Robin, appeared there. There was no response from that rower, so I guess he or she was otherwise occupied.

Four Easy Pieces Today

This 500 meters was supposed to be easy, at an average pace of 2:15. But HR seemed oblivious to that and just kept climbing.

Today’s screen-recorded erg session started out to be a single easy 500 meter piece. HR was higher than it should have been and because of that it was followed with another 500m at an easier pace.

There were four sessions today. First two were 5,000 meters and the second two were the 500 meter pair.

Another 500 Meters A Bit Faster

Today’s erg workouts were two 5Ks and a 0.5K. The screenshot above is of the 0.5K, which was a season best and ranked.

Today’s 500 meter piece was an attempt to go just a tiny bit faster than yesterday’s. The approach was to maintain an average pace of about 2 minutes 6.4 seconds per 500m for the first 400 meters and then go a little faster during the last 100 meters. For what it’s worth, it turned out to be a season best for me and was ranked in the online world rankings even though it was far from being even in the top ten. You can see it in today’s screen recording.

Doing a Sort of Redo

Finish screen view for today’s 500m

Today’s overall goal was to do at least 15,000 meters in 4 pieces, like yesterday. Another particular goal was to do the first two each at the same average pace as the first two yesterday and then to do another 500 meters similar to the one yesterday to see if HR would get as crazy high during or after the 500 meters as it did immediately after yesterday’s, when it rose as high as 208 before settling down.

So that’s what I did and heart rate didn’t get as high during or after today’s 500m as yesterday’s.

Happy Independence Day

The most fun part of today’s erg time was a 500 meter piece. It was number 3 of 4 toward today’s goal of 15,000 meters. Target for the 500m was was 2:10 for first 400m and then faster for the last 100 to the finish. It was “ranked” in the concept2.com online rankings because it was a new “season best” for that distance.

The only session today with a screen recording is that short piece. Graphs and data for the others can be viewed at the link further below.

Sum of Four is Fifteen

Finish screen view for the shortest of today’s four pieces.

A 500m was the shortest of four erg workouts today and it is the one for which there is a screen recording. The 500m target was to have an average pace of about 2:13 by the time remaining distance counted down to 100 meters and then to row a bit stronger for the last 100 meters.

The total distance goal for today was 15K which was done in four pieces.
