First Rowing In Ten Days

Today’s is the first rowing session since earlier this same month on the  19th.  This session was 10K done with a target heart rate zone of 137 to 149.  The first 2K was done slowest, to serve as a warm up.  After the first 2K I stopped and announced to the “viewing audience” that the warmup was over.

Happy rowing to you.

Routine Brain Cleaning

Today’s session was another 10K done with target heart rate zone.  The target zone was 133 to 150 BPM.

An article I saw recently mentioned that sustained aerobic exercise literally “cleans the brain,” as I may have mentioned recently in another blog post.  So today’s rowing session could be considered a routine brain cleaning, from that perspective.

Tweaking The HR Zone

Today’s 10K was like yesterday’s but the HR zone was increased to be from 138 to 150 BPM.

The glitches in the early part of the HR graphs were due to hardware, not heartware – the heart strap wasn’t quite moist enough at the beginning.

10K Interrupted And With Breaks

Today’s session was 10K with a target heart rate zone of 144 to 158.  It was preceded by a one minute warmup. The session was interrupted once when I had to get off the rowing machine for a few minutes.  And there were a few shorter breaks after that.

Irregularities in the HR graph are due to the interruptions and not to any paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. The last time I had an episode of the latter was September 1st of this year.  Hopefully it is “cured” with the diet and lifestyle changes that have been made. Heart rhythm was perfectly fine!

The session was uploaded to YouTube as a screen recording and will eventually be available at the following link: Indoor Rowing 10K with target heart rate 10132018

A Bit Harder Than I Thought

After three whole days off I thought perhaps I’d have an extra reserve of energy so I increased the average pace goal for today’s 10K from 2:13.2/500 meters to 2:12.8/500 meters and then sprinted moderately during the last 500 meters to increase pace by another 1/10th of a second to 2:12.7.

The perceived effort was harder than I anticipated.

Using Two Pace Boats With A 10K

Today was another in the current series of 10K sessions. Used two pace boats- one set at 2:14 and another which was yesterday’s previous row.  I paced them throughout and then went faster during final 500 meters, to bring average pace to 2:13.6.
