No Teamwork Needed Today

team-work

It goes without saying that solo indoor rowing requires no teamwork. But the team effort of a rowing crew sure does look like fun.

Today’s training session was not done as training.  It was done very lazily, just to do the meters.  It was supposed to be 4x1000r750 within a 10K but I just did it as a very easy 10K while switching from one youtube video to another.

Easy Hard Rowing

easy-hard-rowing

Today’s rowing was a doubling up of two sessions into one day, which resulted in being caught-up again in the training schedule.  The first session was a recovery 6K which was done easy.  The second session was a 4x250r250 within a 6K and that was done even easier.

Happy Friday Rowing

happy-rowing-friday
It’s always nice to see smiles on the faces of people who are rowing.

Today’s happy rowing on Friday started late because first I had to take the car for emissions inspection & registration renewal. Today was one day before it was too late and the registration expired.  Nothing like waiting until the last minute.  The lines were long, so there were plenty of others who had put it off until the day before the last day also.

After that, I ran an errand to the store and noticed that one of the tires was almost flat.  So I stopped at the tire dealer to get that taken care of and learned that the six year old tires needed to be replaced.

By the time I could do today’s rowing and pushups session, the afternoon was almost over.

Today’s rowing was 4x1000r750 within a total distance of 8K, with a 2,750 meter warmup/down added on.

The spreadsheet display of pushup session results for today will be the last image below.

Mother Of All Rowers

mother-of-all-rowers

The title of today’s post is actually a non-sequitur to today’s rowing.  It just popped into my mind, probably as the result of seeing news today about the “mother of all bombs” which was used for the first time in battle.

But since it was in my mind, I searched for an image using the terms mother and rowers and the above is one of the relevant results, if you can say anything is relevant to a non-sequitur.

Today’s rowing session was 3x200r1000 within a 6K.

Indoor Push Ups And Rowing Likewise

Today’s rowing session was preceded by another strength-training pushups session. It’s results are shown in the last image in this post.

The rowing session was patterned at 4x250r500 within 8K total session distance.  Warmup/down was extra.

Stephen Hawking Isn’t Very Smart

a-04_2016-irrelevant2

The image above shows a coxswain at work. Coxswains are frequently present in OTW rowing and they have to be smart, resourceful and quick-thinking if they are any good at their job.

A bit of rowing trivia is that Stephen Hawking was a coxswain for a while, but he wasn’t a very good one. In fact, he was a very poor coxswain.  So on the basis of those facts one may conclude that though Hawking is a bit of a savant at math, he isn’t as smart as he’s cracked up to be*.

*Definition of phrase, “cracked up to be”: Failing to meet expectations; not being as good as people say.

Today’s rowing session was two.  First, a 4x1500r750 patterned within 14K. After that, I did some catch-up and did the next training session, which was 4x200r1000 within a 6K.  But the catch-up 6K was done much slower than its description called for.  The main thing I wanted was to catch up on some of the meters missed over the weekend and that was partly accomplished.  Now I’m only behind by  one training session.

Back In The Routine Again

ad-04102016-irrelevant
This looks like fun but it is OTW rowing. My rowing today was the usual indoor rowing, alone.

After taking two days off from training, I was back at it today.  Started out with strength-training/pushups session and finished with a belated-by-2-days rowing session.

The rowing session was patterned as 4x500r500 within 8K and there was a total of 2K warmup/down.

Don’t take the details too seriously but the pattern shown is correct. Below the details are graphs of pace and HR for the warmup.

More Fun Indoor Rowing

more-fun-indoor-rowing
These OTW rowers are mostly smiling, but the other part of the picture doesn’t convince me that they are having more fun than I did today with indoor rowing.

Today’s training session was a rest and recovery 6K.  In addition to the 6K there was a total of 4K warmup/down.

Before the 6K, another strength-training pushups session was done, with a tiny bit of progress overall. The pushups results are in the last image below.

Though today’s session didn’t call for much mental effort, I was a lot more focused today than yesterday and it shows, in the pace per stroke graph.

For today’s strength training, the total number of pushups done in the session decreased by 1 compared to the previous session but the number of consecutive pushups done in one set increased by one, from 10 to 11.  So I count that as a tiny overall improvement.
