A Few K On A Rainy Day

a-rainy-low-cloud-cover-day
A lovely day in the usually brightly brilliant sunlit desert. Low clouds enshrouding the mountains in cottony fluff. A constant drizzle of rain for hours and hours. Perfect for indoor rowing.

Today instead of setting up another 10K I looked online in hopes of finding some company and was rewarded with finding two guys in Australia who were ready to row.

So we mutually encouraged each other to do a 30 minute piece.

Lose 3 lbs, Gain 3 lbs, Lose 3 lbs … Repeat

hot-on-the-roof
This picture reminds me of what it felt like when I was working on the roof today, between 11 am and 1 pm.

Today there was some necessary work to do on the roof and because it had to be done in time so that it would have a few hours to dry before the afternoon rain arrived… I had to do it in the middle of the day.

I weighed myself before and afterwards, because that’s a more reliable measure of dehydration than the feeling of thirst.  I was 3 pounds lighter after working in the sun on the roof, which translates to having lost 3 pints of water.

So I sat around in shorts after finishing the roof work and cooled off while replenishing those 3 pints before doing today’s rowing.

Today’s time on the erg was a very easy 10K.  After the 10K, I was once again 3 pounds lighter!  Though the rowing pace was very easy, the room was a wee bit warm…

Wind Rain Hail Rainbow

Wind-rain-hail-rainbows
First the rainbow. Then the wind. Then the rain. Then it hailed. An interesting little episode of weather today. Before the clouds arrived, the temperature was about 100 F.  After the rain and hail, the temperature dropped to 71 F.

Today’s episode of aerobic activity was an hour at an easy pace on the rowing machine followed by a warm down of about 7 minutes.

Report for the one hour session. I don’t know why RowPro failed to split the session into 20 equal splits but it might have something to do with why RowPro failed to show ending heart rate for the last split.

Indoor Rowing Beats Indoor Horseback Riding

indoor-horseback-riding
The only indoor exercise I got in the last two weeks before today was indoor horseback riding. It didn’t elevate the heart rate or work up a sweat.

Today’s rowing session was the first in over two weeks of abstinence from rowing. It was only 30 minutes long and it began about 10 minutes before the start of a baseball game.  So I watched the first 20 minutes of the baseball game during today’s session.

It was good to be back in the saddle of the Concept 2 rowing machine again, after taking more than two weeks off.

Counting Down to Rowing Again

a-view-07172016-run
Part of today’s run was alongside a track filled with stationary stored railroad cars.

Today was another in a string of days without rowing but in less than a week I should be able to resume indoor rowing.

Today’s aerobic activity was a 3+ mile run at low altitude and moderate temperature of around 70-72 degrees F.

Cloudy With Rain*

cloudy with rain

There will be no rowing or running by me today.  Enjoying the extreme relative strangeness of a cool, cloudy day instead of a 100 degree plus brilliant, sunshiny day.

*Correction: the rain stopped and things dried out enough in time for a short run:

It wasn’t exactly desert but it was dry enough for running at this small park this afternoon.

Long Road Unrowed

no-rowing-today

Today there will be no rowing done by this particular rower, since I cannot clone myself like Doug Kinney did in the science-fiction comedy movie, “Multiplicity”.

long-view-ahead

Somebody needs to invent and manufacture a vehicle that a person can drive while using a Concept2 rowing machine.
