Easy->Medium->Medium Hard->Hard

Today’s indoor rowing session was 10K done on the internet  in the virtual company of two other rowers.  The other two were located in Germany.

The session started out feeling like it would be in the category of Easy effort.  Soon it moved into feeling like Medium. By about halfway, it started feeling Medium Hard.  When the remaining distance counted down to between 4,000 and 3,000 meters left to go, it started to feel Hard. Respiration rate near the end confirmed that it had become “Hard” because respiration rate increased to about 60 breaths per minute which is a lot higher rate than when rowing “Easy”.

So today’s rowing session is tagged with all four of those effort levels. It was definitely both in the category of a Fun and a Mentally absorbing workout from start to finish.

There was a screen recording made for any of you who want to use it as something to row-along with.  The screen recording link is here: Indoor Rowing 10K Online 09212018

They Started Early

Today was going to be an online 30 minute session but when I checked in during the last two minutes before the scheduled starting time, they had already started without me. So I chose to do a 5K solo and offline.

The session was screen recorded for rowing-along with and can be found at this link: Indoor Rowing 5K at Two Eleven Point Eight 09202018

Dreamy Rowing Session

Perhaps its because I let myself sleep in late this morning and I continued in a dreamy state, late into the day.  For whatever reason, today’s rowing session seemed to be a dreamy workout. I feel like I could fall asleep almost instantly, if I would just close my eyes and lay down.

The distance was preset to 5,485 meters. A screen recording for row-along will be available at this link: Indoor Rowing 5481 meters 09162018

In Good Company

Today’s rowing session was 10K done online in the virtual company of ten other people.

One of the rowers, Wolfram Huhn, is an Olympic rower.

Some of the rowers may have been racing each other but I’m not sure because I didn’t closely watch what they were all doing all the time. So I don’t know if Wolfram Huhn was racing, but he finished in first place.

I wasn’t racing anybody but did manage to set a new season best time and therefore placed the result for today’s 10K in the Concept 2 online world rankings for 10K this season.

Its always a bit puzzling for me to chose how to categorize a rowing session if it is done at any effort level other than easy.  So I chose to categorize today’s session with several of them because effort level for today’s rowing ranged from Easy to Medium Hard and almost but not quite reached “Hard” at the very end.  I included “Race” among the categories for today’s rowing session because there were others who were rowing at a racing effort level.

A screen recording of the session will be available later today at this link: Indoor Rowing 10K online 09152018

Happy rowing to you.

Reminiscent Of A Race

Finish screen of 5K portion of today’s screen recording.

Today was a bit of follow-through from yesterday.  That is, I followed through with yesterday’s determination to avoid procrastination by joining a scheduled rowing session and this morning I kept the appointment online and rowed with several others.  The other rowers were at various places in Europe and the United States.

I tentatively  decided to pace the slowest person in the group and maybe let it turn into a race.  But that person, though he started out at a doable pace, slowed down a bit too much.  So there was no race for me, but I rowed a little bit faster than the best time this season and therefore set a new season best, which was entered into the online rankings for 5K in my age category.

Today’s rowing session was only “reminiscent” of a race, because I didn’t row hard enough for it to qualify as a race.  I’ve been rowing at an easy pace for so long, that I had a hard time deciding how to categorize today’s effort but finally settle on “medium” since the only part of the session that increased respiration rate even a little bit was during the last few hundred meters.

A screen recording of the session can be found at this link: Indoor Rowing Online 5K and warmdown 09132018

The first part of the screen recording has the 5K and then there is a 2K warm down on the screen recording, which I did with one other guy who had been in the original group.

Finish screen for last part of today’s screen recording, which was a 2K warm down.

Offline Again Today But Online Tomorrow

Yesterday’s session was skipped due to undue procrastination.  Not that any amount of procrastination is ever warranted or appropriate.  So after today’s session was finished I looked at tomorrow’s online schedule.  Surprise!  Someone had scheduled an online 5K at a convenient time tomorrow morning.  So… hopefully tomorrow’s will be online.  It’s scheduled for 1330 (1:30 pm) GMT which is 08:30 local time tomorrow morning.  If you read this in time, join in!

Today’s session was a little more than 5K.  A screen recording for rowing along with today’s session can be found here: Indoor Rowing 5348 meters 331 calories 09122018
