Yesterday afternoon instead of going for a daily run I went to see a movie with my dear wife.
She had been wanting to see the movie, “You Can See Everything” and yesterday there was an opportunity. It was quite an experience.
In some ways, the main character reminded me of one of my daughters. I won’t try to explain those ways, but I thought of her in several different regards.
The movie is a documentary. The main character is actually Elizabeth Holmes. The film maker with crew, recording equipment and camera running…spends a week or two in her home with her and her family, up until the day she has to leave her family and be taken to prison.
If you know anything about Elizabeth Holmes and why she was sentenced to 11 years in prison, you might wonder whether I believe she is guilty of the crime she was accused and convicted of.
So here’s the answer: If I had been on the jury, I would have decided that she was not guilty. To have judged her guilty beyond “a shadow of a doubt” is preposterous. If shadows had any weight, I’d say that there are “tons of shadows of doubt” and she should not serve any time in prison.
Perhaps other people should…such as Henry Kissinger’s lawyer, who “inspired” and was responsible for some wealthy people to invest… but I suspect that he was simply as ignorant of the science as Elizabeth Holmes was innocent of criminal deceit.
With regards to not going running yesterday…the day off gave my physical heart time to recover from the run the day before yesterday with the result that it rested at a rate of 48 BPM during last night’s sleep.
That was 5 BPM less than it’s slightly elevated resting level of 53 BPM the night before.
Another benefit is that, because my wife wants me to outlive her so that she is never a widow…the beneficial result of a day off from running should make her happy.
Happy heart, happy wife.
