The focus workout today was another sprint. The target for this 100 meter rowing piece was just a tad bit faster than yesterday’s. By that is meant: I managed to move up one place, from 45th to 44th in the rankings. Screen recording includes both warmup and warm down.

Today’s focus was a couple of 100 meter sprints, one each on SkiErg and rowing machine. Each was finished almost as soon as it started. The focus workout for today’s screen recording was the 100 meter rowing sprint. I aimed for a pace of about 1:55 for 80 meters and then a little faster the last 20 meters. Short but fun. It was an experiment that left room for improvement. The screen recording includes warmup and warm down.

Tachyness is a made-up word unless enough people want to use it like it is being used here. Here it is being used to mean a state of having tachycardia.
Yesterday, beginning a few hours after yesterday’s focal workout of a 500m sprint and 750 meter warmdown, atrial tachycardia set in. It persisted all evening and into the next morning. Taking a couple tablets which were a relatively heavy duty dose of extract of the root of valerian herb seemed to quell it. But I’d rather it didn’t happen in the first place, because it caused a loss of about three hours sleep.
After thinking about yesterday’s workout I decided that the problem might have been triggered by the combination of 30 second wait time after yesterday’s sprint and that the warm down of 750 meters was too brief.
Thinking of those two factors today, the 30 minute wait time after today’s sprint was cancelled and the warm down began almost immediately. Also, today’s warm down was more than twice as long as yesterday’s, at 2,000 instead of 750 meters.
The goal was an average pace of 1:54.7/500 m or faster so as to move up in season rankings. It was done . Plan was for average pace of about 1:54.7 until last 100 m then increase pace a little to the finish. Screen recording starts with 750 meter warmup and finishes with the 2,000 meter warm down.

The focus workout today was a 500m sprint. The goal was for a tiny improvement in 500m pace for this season ranking and it was accomplished. Plan was to maintain average pace of about 1m 56.6seconds/500m until last 100 m then perhaps increase pace a little until the end. The screen recording includes 750m warmup and warmdown.

The total workout was two sessions for a total of about 30 minutes. Today’s second session is the one for which there is a screen recording. It consists of 7 intervals with active rests.
The plan was for the first and every other following minute to be a brisker pace with slower active rests. Heart was a spoiler and because it’s rate went too high in a few of the earlier intervals, the brisk pace was not maintained for those particular ones. But as the session progressed, the heart cleaned up its act and it’s behavior improved. The last three intervals were each done with a cooperative heart for the full 60 seconds.

There were several workout pieces on the ergs today but the main one was another try at a season best for 500m. Plan was average pace of 1:57.1 then faster near the end. But the plan was modified a bit when I saw that the average pace would be faster than target. Because of that I aimed for a steady pace to the finish.

Today’s total distance of 3,430 meters was chosen because it was the distance rowed most recently by one of my training partners. An easy pace for a non-standard distance.

Like the title indicates, a 500 meter session today was a “season best” time. The exact time for the 500 meter session was 1 minute 57.4 seconds. The session screen recording also includes warmup and warmdown. The warmup is 500 meters. The warmdown is 750 meters. Each part- warmup, 500 meter sprint and warmdown is preceded by a 30 second countdown display.

There were three erg sessions today. First, an easy 5K on SkiErg. Second, 30 minutes online with a guy who was in Germany. Third, 2500 meter online warm down.
There were two rowers in the 30 minutes online session, counting myself as one of those two. I rowed very slow with the exception of a very brief taste of going berserk during the 8th of 8 one-minute intervals. The first 10 minutes of the 30 minute session was warmup. Beginning with the eleventh minute I did mostly mild intervals of one minute each with one or two minutes active rest following each interval.
The only interval that wasn’t mild was the 8th, in which I let it get a little bit wild for just a tiny bit of time.
If you’d like to view or row along with the screen recording of today’s only briefly berserk session it is available here: July 10th, 2021 online rowing session.
